The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an ALERT that due to the fact that there are 15,500 fires, 10 deaths and 310 injuries annually resulting from dryer exhaust fires!! While the efforts of Chimney cleaners across the country have dramatically reduced the incidence of chimney fires, fires from un-cleaned dryer vents has increased 15%.

**Causes and cures of dryer vent fires**

Reduced air flow and lint build-up cause overheating and prevent fast drying action. When this happens, the high temperature limit safety switches cycle on and off continuously and thus may fail over a period of time. This results in higher cost of operating your dryer, increases your electric bills and could result in a costly and dangerous dryer fire.

**Advanced warning signs**

Clothes ( Especially towels and jeans ) take a very long time to dry.

Clothes are hotter than usual at the end of the cycle.

Flapper on vent hood does not open when dryer is on.

Dryer keeps shutting off before the timer ends the drying cycle.
